We found The Greek Taverna on Insta and had to try it! It did not disappoint! We were met at the door with a nice hello and seated in a booth (even though we didn't have a reservation and it was almost rush time). Right when we were seated they brought us house made bread! The servers were very nice and friendly and explained all the specials. We ordered the Greek street fries as an appetizer. For our main course we had the Greek baked spaghetti and the special of the day which was stuffed salmon with rice pilaf and a salad. All of it it was FABULOUS! The Tzatziki sauce for the fries was good and thick. The fries were hot and the cheese was very good! Great appetizer! The baked spaghetti was fantastic! The noodles were perfect, right amount of cheese and the perfect amount of sauce. There is also pepperoni, sausage and meatballs in the sauce and it's huge! Also, I would name this as a #1 item for takeout in Richmond because it eats, travels and reheats well. The salmon special was stuffed and came with a super tasty rice pilaf and salad. The salmon was cooked perfect and had a wine lemon dill cream sauce, my husband cleaned his plate! He loved it all! For dessert we had Kataifi Ek Mek. It's a Greek dessert that the owner makes with shredded wheat soaked in a sweet syrup with vanilla sweet cream (almost a pudding) topped with homemade whipped cream! It was FABULOUS, I ate it all! They serve Greek wine and have specials on food and wine. Next time we will try the wine and other new things. This was a fabulous dinner out and we will be back!
This is the most authentic Greek Food I have ever had in the United States. The owners regularly great and check in on the customers and the service is second to none. As a restaurant, its both a classy and "mom and pop" atmospher in one due to the personality of the staff and hostess and welcome nature. The food, the best part, is outstanding and always cooked to perfection. I've only been two times but will be going back much more since it was the same quality service and food on both occasions. If you live nearby or are in the area, and enjoy Greek cuisine, you would be foolish not to dine here. Also, the wine and drink selection is fantastic. Very reasonably priced for those who are on a budget.
Invited my book club here. Everyone LOVED the food and service. They couldn’t wait to come back or order takeout soon. I was so happy the owners were able to seat us in their back room, where we could enjoy our own space, especially since we are used to hosting book club at people’s homes. We felt right at home here plus the service and food was perfect.
Highly recommend and will definitely be going again! No wait, staff were helpful and very nice! Food was incredible. The servings are shareable or save for lunch tomorrow! Well worth it to go ahead and try if you never have! If you don’t try you’ll never know!
Great Food...Service...Vibe... This place has it all! Was there for a birthday and they had a handsome trombone player server come out to play the ‘Happy Birthday’ song!! Who else does that?? I’ll definitely return on my birthday and any other time that I have a craving for the good stuff!
Wow! I love the Greek Taverna! Nellie, the cute young petite host was so kind and sweet She really made my day. The food was delicious and service outstanding. Looking forward to coming back. Most definitely making this a regular dining spot .
If you like pasta, and a lot of it, Greek Taverna is a great place. It’s also great if you don’t like pasta, but I would seriously recommend the Greek Spaghetti, which is essentially a gargantuan plate of garlicky, buttery noodles covered in cheese, tomatoes, and chicken or shrimp. The entrees are big enough to take half home for a second meal! The employees are attentive and humorous, so it seems like the restaurant treats their staff well. I make sure to stop here at least once a month.
